Why can’t I lose weight?

I am 47 (so pre-menopausal). I need to lose about 8 – 10 lbs (about 5 Kg) to go back to a healthy weight and replace the fat with muscle. I have been eating a low cal diet and exercising, but I haven’t even shed a pound.
My caloric intake needs to be approx. 1900. For the first two weeks, I had fewer than 1600 per day and burned 300 calories a day in the gym. Nothing happened so I went on a more restricted diet and more exercise.

For the past three days, I burned 1000 calories a day (minimum) and had a daily intake of 800 calories or so. Still no weight change. My diet includes low fat meat, low fat milk, yogurt, fiber cereal, eggs, some fruits and lots of raw veggies, flex seed bread, and of course water. I eat in small quantities and not necessarily everything on the list everyday.
Now I heard that due to my insufficient estrogen levels, my body holds on to fat. But how far can my body go with little food and a lot of exercise without any weight loss???
PLEASE HELP ME!

Actually it looks as though you may be not getting enough essential fats in your diet. If you deprive your body of calories it will usually respond with the unwelcomed response of a survival state where it holds onto the calories – you may in fact be burning off lean muscle and replacing it with stored fat. Remember just because you understand the science behind dieting your body does not and is going to maintain what it feels is the balance it requires for survival.

Also, dieting and exercise are wonderful but without accounting for age related changes to your physiology you won’t see any results. Try adding alpha lipoic acid to your diet to help increase the amount of fatty acids in your system which are required for energy and use of carbs which may help to shift you out of this rut. Also look into trying to do a cleanse of your liver and gallbladder as these are essential in overall good health and weight ratios. Supplements such as vitamin D, chlorophyll, B-12 are great for energy synthesis and control a vast amount of processes in your body.

I would pick up a book on supplements and go through it. Try different combinations and see what happens. You need to treat your whole body in this process and remember not to deprive it of the necessities.
